Lost and Found and Happy Holidays

LOST AND FOUND

One last reminder that tomorrow is your last day to claim any items from our Lost and Found that belong to you. Everything in Lost and Found is going to be donated to a charity over the holidays – Lost and Found will be empty when we come back to school in January. There continue to be many items of clothing, as well now there are also several pairs of snowpants and windpants as well as many pairs of shoes and winter boots. Please check Lost and Found one more time before the end of the day tomorrow and make sure you claim anything that belongs to you.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Tomorrow – Friday December 23rd – is our last day of school before the holidays. After that school will be closed from December 26th, 2016 to January 6th, 2017 inclusive. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school again on Monday January 9th, 2017. On behalf of all the staff at Huron Street Junior P.S. we’d like to wish all families in our Huron Community the happiest of holidays. Santa hats, reindeer ears, dressing like an elf, wear holiday colours – whatever makes us happy and puts us in a holiday spirit. And if you made a donation to the Toronto Foundation for Student Success and have a red nose students are encouraged to bring it on Wednesday as well and wear it during our Sing-A-Long.

HURON MONTHLY EARTH HOUR

Friday December 23rd, from 2:20-3:20pm is when Huron will be holding our December Huron Earth Hour. As part of our commitment to being a Platinum Level Eco-School we take time each month to focus on ways we can reduce our energy consumption. At the school we will be turning off as many lights as we can and turning off/powering down as many electronics as we can. We encourage all Huron families to take time to reduce their energy consumption as home as well.

Huron Happenings – December 12, 2016

LOST AND FOUND

It’s really important at this time of year that all items are claimed from Lost and Found. A reminder that everything in Lost and Found will be donated to charity over the winter holidays and Lost and Found will be empty when we return to school in January.
Please remember to check Lost and Found regularly as items that have been living in the back of classrooms and in corners of hallways make their way down to Lost and Found on a continual basis.

To help make it a bit easier to see the Lost and Found collection, for the next two weeks we will put smaller items (gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, etc.) on tables in the hallway near the office and larger items will be in the Lost and Found structure in the front foyer. Shoes and boote, coats, sweat shirts, hoodies, pants, snow pants, t-shirts, umbrellas, back packs, water bottles and lunch bags are only a few of the items that can be found in the Lost and Found structure.

HURON’S ANNUAL HOLIDAY SING-A-LONG

Mark your calendars for Wednesday December 21st at approx. 9:15am – Huron’s Annual Holiday Sing-A-Long. All classes will be in the gym singing some of the season’s favourite songs. It’s one of our school’s most favourite community events – parents/caregivers please plan to join us if you are able. And remember that the red noses which you can get for a $3.00 donation look fabulous worn at the Sing-A-Long.

WINTER HOLIDAY BREAK

Just a reminder that our Winter Holiday Break is from December 26th, 2016 to January 6th, 2017 inclusive. Schools will be closed during this time. Red Nose Campaign in Support of Students in Need

Our school is once again participating in the Red Nose Campaign to assist Toronto students in need. During the week of December 12th we will be continuing to accept donations for the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS). In return for a $3.00 donation, students will receive a flashing red nose. Students may make additional donations for other family members and friends. Students from Room 12 will visit classes to collect donations and to distribute the noses. All donations go to the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS) to help provide food, warm clothing and other essentials to Toronto students in need.

The TFSS is the independent charitable foundation for the Toronto District School Board. For more information on the TFSS, please visit their website at http://www.tfss.ca. It would be wonderful, to see a sea of flashing Red Noses during the Annual Holiday Sing-A-Long on Dec 21st.

BOOK FAIR
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Ella Minnow Book Fair to Huron this week. A separate email has already been sent with all of our Book Fair information – thank you to our Huron Community for supporting the Book Fair, our love of Literature, and continuing to help us purchase new books for our Library.

PIZZA LUNCH
Our December Pizza Lunch will be held on Wednesday December 7th. Big “THANK YOUs” in advance to all the parent volunteers who help make our Pizza Lunches possible! A reminder that extra slices are sold for $2.00 each on our Pizza Day, so if students haven’t pre-ordered pizza, or might like an extra slice, please remember to bring $2.00 on Wednesday.

WINTER CONCERT
The sweet sounds of music will be coming from our gym on Thursday, December 8th, beginning at 6:00pm. Students performing in the concert have already taken home a letter outlining all the details needed for Thursday night. Please check with your child’s teacher, or Ms. Hanson, if you need information about whether your son/daughter is performing. Don’t forget to bring an item of food for our Holiday Food Drive when you come to the concert!

LOST AND FOUND

Huron Book Fair

We are excited that Huron is having a Book Fair in our library Tuesday to Friday, Dec. 6th-9th! This book fair raises money for the purchase of books for Huron’s library.

Classes will get preview times on Tuesday and Wednesday to look at the books set up by the Ella Minnow bookstore, and to create a wish list of 1-2 books for home or suggested school library purchase.

We invite you to come (flyer attached) to see our Fair and perhaps purchase books on Thursday Dec. 8th before school (open at 8:15) or after school (3:30-7:45, closed during our Winter concert), or on Friday Dec. 9th before school (open again at 8:15).

Purchases can be made with credit card or cash.

Another exciting option this year, is to visit online http://www.ellaminnow.ca. If you add IN STOCK items to your cart, specify that you are a HURON parent, and pay by Wednesday evening, your order will be ready to be handed out on Friday Dec. 9th to your child/children. There will be no back orders – once books are sold out, either online or in our school fair, they are sold out.

Your consideration of supporting Huron with this fundraiser, and spreading the love of reading spirit, is greatly appreciated. We also are thankful to our student library ambassadors, all 50+ of them, and our great group of parent volunteers for making this event possible and our library a great space.
