Principal’s Report:
- Windows are 98% completed.
- Grade 5/6 ski trip scheduled for Feb. 21st, almost full participation from every student; 8 staff & 8-10 parents are going to Snow Valley, partnered with Palmerston School for this trip.
- March 6th is the Dance-a-thon.
- Kindergarten registration: 55-60 families were registered; this is the expected range; many families are from out of district.
- Boomerang lunch to start week of Feb. 13th: plan is to have smaller garbage and smaller recycling bin in the gym during lunch.
- Parent council minutes are posted on Huron’s website under the Parent Information link.
Fundraising:
- Acorn fundraising was allocated to classroom supplies for teachers.
- The funds raised from QSP magazine subscription drive were allocated for sports equipment (new Huron jerseys purchase)
- The funds from the June 2011 Picnic for Arts are being employed for arts programming, a large portion of the arts programming will happen in the last half of the school year.
- Dance-a-thon is scheduled for March 6th and the theme is Boogie for Books (books for classroom libraries)
- Huron’s other fundraiser in the spring is Skate Night. A date for Skate Night has not been set because the date depends on how UofT hockey team fares (at Varsity Arena).
Other Items:
- March 1st is the Astronomy Club’s first Family Night for the Huron Community. There is a link to the Astronomy Club on the website Jim C. has created: tdsb-huron.escalator.utoronto.
