STUDENT LEAD FUNDRAISER

Periodically throughout the school year, some of our Grade 5 and 6 students take it upon themselves to organize a fundraiser for a charity which they select.  The students work with a staff advisor on their project but the projects are entirely student-led; the idea, the organization and the execution.

Part of the responsibility that the students have when planning their fundraiser is to write an email to our parent/caregiver community which will be included in an email blast.  Please find below information about one such fundraiser that will be happening in December.  Your participation in the fundraiser is completely voluntary.

Dear parents/guardians,

One of our grade six students is having a fundraiser for Operation Smile. It’s an organization with volunteers that give 100 out of 1000 children free surgeries for their cleft lips and pallets. It’s a condition that children are born with and a lot of kids get bullied and teased because of that and the children that can’t get the free surgeries have to wait for years. So Razan, a grade six student in Huron, is having a fundraiser for that. The money that she raises will go to the organization so rather than 100 out of 1000 maybe 600 out of 1000 children can get the free surgery. One surgery costs about 240 dollars, so Razan is hoping for at least 30 people to get the free surgery; remember every cent counts. Razan is selling slime (please note that the slime may contain borax). The sale is going to be happening on Monday and Wednesday for the first three weeks of December. If you would like to donate separately just google up www.operationsmile.ca

For the slime that I am selling at the school the prices are:
- the big slime with glitter $5.50
- the big slime with nothing in it $5.00
- the big slime with foam beads $6.00
- the big slime with everything $6.50
- the small slime with nothing $2.00
- the small slime with glitter $2.50
- the small slime with foam beads $3.00
- the small slime with everything $3.50

Thanks for your support of my fundraiser.

LOOKING FOR DONATIONS TO OUR INDOOR LUNCH PROGRAM

We are looking for any gently used games, puzzles, activities etc. that could be used during our indoor lunches.  If you should have anything like this at home that isn’t being used any longer the school would welcome any donations.  Thankfully we don’t usually have too many days when the students need to stay indoors, but having a nice variety of activities for when they do is very helpful.

Additionally, if you have any DVDs that are suitable for children we would also appreciate any DVD donations.  The students are usually split into two groups (by grade) during indoor lunches, with Grades 1, 2 and 3 being one group and Grades 4, 5 and 6 being a second group.  Any DVDs that might appeal to either age group would be useful to us.
