Huron Happenings – Feb. 19, 2018

HOLIDAY

Remember that Monday February 19th is the Family Day Holiday and school is closed. We’ll see all students at school on Tuesday February 20th, 2018.

PROLOGUE PERFORMANCE

On Thursday February 22nd we are having our next Prologue performance – a group called “Bboyizm” is coming to perform for our grade 4, 5 and 6 students. The performance will start after the morning announcements, at approx. 9:15am, – parents/caregivers, if you are available please plan to come and join us.

HURON EARTH HOUR

Our Huron Earth Hour for February is going to be held on Friday February 23rd from 2:20-3:20pm. As part of our commitment to being a Platinum Level Eco-School, this is an opportunity for our school community, every month, to focus on ways we can reduce our energy consumption. We turn off as many lights as we can and power down/turn off as many electronics as possible. Classrooms use this time for discussions and planning. We would encourage Huron families to think about engaging in similar activities at home as well.

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING

Our next School Council Meeting will be happening on Tuesday February 27th, 2018 at 6:00pm. Babysitting and pizza will be available for children – and all parents/caregivers are welcome to attend the meeting and be a part of the discussions.

DANCE-A-THON

Make sure your calendars are marked for our annual Dance-A-Thon fundraiser happening on Thursday March 8th, 2018. More information and pledge forms will be coming soon but start your planning now – and if parents/caregivers are available, please bring your dance shoes and come and join us that day. Please check with your child’s teacher for their scheduled time.

LOST AND FOUND

As the weather changes we know from experience that the amount of clothing in Lost and Found seems to increase dramatically, as outdoor clothing is removed when the students get hot playing outside…and then not always reclaimed. We’ve currently got 5 pairs of snow pants in Lost and Found, and as always a great collection of boots, coats, shoes, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, water bottles, lunch bags, the list goes on. Please remember to check our Lost and Found structure in the front foyer frequently and take home items that belong to you.

A reminder also that ALL ITEMS in Lost and Found will be donated to a charity during the March Break holiday. The last day for you to ‘find’ items that belong in your household will be Friday March 9th – when we come back to school again after March Break (on Monday March 19th) Lost and Found will be empty!

ICE SKATING AT SIBELIUS PARK – SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25th

The Annex Residents’ Association is hosting a neighbourhood skate at Sibelius Park on Sunday, February 25th from 1:00-4:00pm (weather dependent). Free cookies and hot chocolate if you bring your own mug. Children 12 and under must have an adult present. The ARA is looking forward to this new event and hopes to see you there – it should be lots of fun! Please see the attached flier for more information.
