Our very generous school community has already filled approximately 10 boxes that were delivered to the Food Bank on Friday. Thank you so much! Boxes for non-perishable food donations will be in the main foyer on Monday and any more donations will also be taken to Walmer Road Food Bank to assist families that live in our local community.

MILK AND COOKIE FUNDRAISER

Huron is having a Milk and Cookie Fund Raiser for the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS) on Wednesday December 20th, 2017. The TFSS mission is to remove barriers for children so that every child is nourished and able to learn. By providing food, medical care, emergency funds and after school programs for children in need, we help them succeed in school. More information about TFSS can be found at: http://tfss.ca/
All proceeds from our “Milk and Cookie” fundraiser will support the TFSS. Your donation of $5.00 (or more) will be greatly received and appreciated. Donations can be made through School Cash Online, or cash will be collected from students on Wednesday. All Huron Students will receive one delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookie (gluten free/nut free) and one carton of white milk (a non-dairy alternative will also be available if needed). Let the spirit of the season begin!!!

ANNUAL HOLIDAY SING-A-LONG

Our Annual Holiday Sing-A-Long will be on Thursday December 21st, 2017 starting at approximately 9:20am. Come and join all of us, along with Ms. Hanson as she ‘tickles the ivories’, and leads 400+ voices in song. Our Sing-A-Long is definitely a highlight of our school year – please join us if you can.

ELF YOURSELF SPIRIT DAY

We have decided to have “Elf Yourself Day” on two days this week, to correspond with two different events happening at school. Students (and adults) are all encouraged to dress in their holiday finest and/or new School Spirit Wear on either, or both, of Wednesday, December 20th and Thursday December 21st. Wednesday will be our “Milk and Cookie / Elf Yourself Day” and Thursday will be our “Annual Holiday Sing-A-Long / Elf Yourself Day”.

HURON EARTH HOUR

Our Huron Earth Hour for December is going to be held on Friday December 22nd from 2:20-3:20pm. As part of our commitment to being a Platinum Level Eco-School, this is an opportunity for our school community, every month, to focus on ways we can reduce our energy consumption. We turn off as many lights as we can and power down/turn off as many electronics as possible. Classrooms use this time for discussions and planning. We would encourage Huron families to think about engaging in similar activities at home as well.

LOST AND FOUND

A reminder that ALL ITEMS in Lost and Found will be donated to a charity during out winter holidays. The last day for you to ‘find’ items that belong in your household will be Friday December 22nd – when we come back to school again in January Lost and Found will be empty! Lost and Found items will be in the structure in the front foyer as well as on the tables in the front hallway outside the Main Office. Please make sure you are checking regularly, all week long.

It’s nearly show time!

The annual Winter Concert is this week! It is sure to be a delightful programme!

The concert will take place Thursday December 14th, 2017 at 6:00pm in the gym, and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Please note the start time; also there WILL NOT be an intermission this year. If you arrive early, you’ll have a great opportunity to visit the Book Fair (which will also be open after the concert until 7:30pm)!

The format will be as follows:

1. Primary Choir

2. Room 22 Recorders

3. Junior Choir

4. Room 23 Recorders

5. Room 8

6. Combined Junior & Primary Choirs

Ensembles will meet in advance in the following classrooms. Please note that performers DO NOT need to come to school any earlier than 5:45pm.

Room 8 Room 6 @ 5:45pm

Primary Choir Room 6 @ 5:45pm

Room 22 Recorders Room 6 @ 5:45pm

Room 23 Recorders Room 4 @ 5:45pm

Junior Choir Room 6 @ 5:45pm

(After the concert, students should leave their recorders in the staff room.)

If a child is in more than one ensemble, they should go to the room of the ensemble that is on first in the programme.

If you have both primary and junior level children performing, please be sure to pick up your entertainers from all ‘ready rooms’ at the end of the concert.

Dress for all performers is “concert lights and darks” no jeans, please (if possible)! This is a very special evening, and we want the children to feel the importance of the occasion.

Thank you for your continuing enthusiastic support of all of the music programmes at Huron School.

BOOK FAIR

It’s December…and Book Fair time! Our Book Fair is run by Ella Minnow Bookstore and a portion of all sales helps support buying books for our Huron library.

LOST AND FOUND

As always happens, now that the cooler temperatures are upon us the amount of clothing in Lost and Found has increased dramatically, with the addition of winter coats, snowpants, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, and even boots now a part of the collection…which also contains sweatshirts, hoodies, other tops, lunchbags, numerous water bottles, umbrellas, baseball gloves…

Please remember to check our Lost and Found structure in the front foyer frequently and take home items that belong to you.

A reminder also that ALL ITEMS in Lost and Found will be donated to a charity during out winter holidays. The last day for you to ‘find’ items that belong in your household will be Friday December 22nd – when we come back to school again in January Lost and Found will be empty!

ENTRY INTO THE SCHOOL IN THE MORNINGS

A reminder to everyone that unless students need to come into the office in the morning, all students and their families should walk around directly to the schoolyard and be prepared to meet classes when the bell rings. Students and their families should not be coming into the school unless there is a reason to do so. Families please be conscious of the fact that the office is a very busy place in the mornings and it’s not always possible for us to answer the buzzer immediately when it rings. Please support Ms. Vallely with this and let’s try and reduce the number of people coming into the building unnecessarily. Of course no changes for families coming to Superfriends in the morning.
