Music Monday; Tafelmusik Presentation; School Concert

MAY the FOURTH be WITH YOU!!
Music Monday is coming. This annual celebration of music education in schools will take place this year on Monday May 4th. Celebrations all across Canada will be taking place, joining in song as we sing the new anthem ‘We Are One’, written by Connor Ross, a Performing Arts High School student in Bolton. The Huron celebration will take place in the big field, weather permitting, at 11:10am (in the gym in the event of rain–or snow!!!) The lyrics and music are posted on the Music Room wiki at: http://huronmusic.wikispaces.com/Music+Monday

Another terrific event is approaching–and even sooner! On Monday April 13, all pupils from grades 2 to 6 will be attending Tafelmusik’s presentation of ‘The Quest for Arundo Donax’ at Trinity-St. Paul Center, just west of the Metro grocery store. We will have an early lunch and leave the school at about 12:05pm to get there in time to be seated for the 12:45pm concert start time. It’s free! Be on the lookout for permission forms in your childrens’ backpacks. If you able to help out as a parent volunteer, make sure you indicate so on the permission forms.

Finally, just a reminder that the School Concert date is Thursday May 14th @ 6:00 pm, and the Kindergarten Concert is Thursday May 21st at 6:00 pm.

Pizza Day; Passover and Easter; International Day of Pink

PIZZA DAY
A reminder that our next Pizza Day is this week – on Wednesday April 1st, 2015. (Any extra pizza slices can be purchased for $2.00/slice but do remember that extra slices are not always available. Our pizza orders are placed well in advance based on orders received at that time.)

HAPPY PASSOVER and HAPPY EASTER
A reminder that next weekend is a long weekend – there is NO SCHOOL on Friday April 3rd or Monday April 6th. We will see everyone again on Tuesday April 7th.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PINK
Day of Pink is the International Day against Bullying, Discrimination, Homophobia and Transphobia in schools and communities. We invite everyone to celebrate diversity by wearing a something PINK on Wednesday April 8th, 2015. (And Grade 5 and 6 students who will be at the Island/Natural Science School, don’t forget to take something pink to wear today!)

The International Day of Pink is a day of action, born when a youth in a high school in Cambridge, Nova Scotia was bullied because he wore a pink shirt to school. His fellow students decided to stand up to bullying; and hundreds of students came to school wearing pink to show support for diversity and stopping discrimination, gender-based bullying, homophobia and transphobia. The Huron Public School and the TDSB encourages staff and students to wear pink in support of diversity.

The International Day of Pink is more than just a symbol of a shared belief in celebrating diversity – it’s also a commitment to being open minded, to being understanding of differences and to learning to respect each other. March Break; Lost and Found; Skate Night; Concerts

MARCH BREAK
A reminder to everyone that the school is closed next week for our March Break holiday. There is NO SCHOOL for students from March 16th – 20th inclusive. We’ll see everyone back at school on Monday March 23rd, 2015. Have a fun, safe, happy, healthy and relaxing break everyone!

LOST AND FOUND
It is important for all families to note that ALL LOST AND FOUND ITEMS will be DONATED TO CHARITY over the March Break Holiday. The Lost and Found structure will be EMPTY when you return to school on March 23rd. Our Lost and Found is extremely full – please everyone remember to check Lost and Found regularly and claim any belongings. Students are reminded regularly to bring lost and found items from their classrooms and hallways to the Lost and Found structure, so even if you can’t find something on one day please continue to check. Sometimes it takes a little while but most things do, eventually, end up in Lost and Found. This week items will be laid out on tables in the front hallway as well as in the Lost and Found structure. Please check in all locations.

Please note – food containers are thrown out regularly!! It doesn’t take long for the food in them to become disgusting, which is then smelly and attracts things we don’t want. For that reason, all food containers that end up in Lost and Found are thrown out regularly – so please check Lost and Found if your child left their lunchbag at school.

SKATE NIGHT
Mark the date on your calendars – FRIDAY MARCH 27th, 2015 – and join us for Huron’s annual Family Skate Night at Varsity Arena. More information will be coming soon but mark your calendars and plan to join us this evening.

CHANGE OF DATES FOR CONCERTS
When you look ahead at “Future Dates” we wanted to draw your attention to the fact that the dates for the Spring Concert and the Kindergarten Concert have switched. Ms. Mossman, our band instructor, was not able to join us on the original date we had chosen to the SPRING CONCERT (featuring band, strings, choirs and select classes) will now be on Thursday May 14th, 2015, and our KINDERGARTEN CONCERT (featuring the students in Rooms 3, 4, 5 and 6) will now be on Thursday May 21st, 2015. Please mark your calendars.
