**  NO SCHOOL on FRIDAY APRIL 18th and MONDAY APRIL 21st  **
A reminder to all families that there is no school on Friday April 18th or Monday April 21st, 2014. We would like to wish all Huron friends and families that are celebrating Passover and/or Easter a very Happy Holiday!
** LOST AND FOUND **
Please remember to check Lost and Found frequently.  Items are starting to build up again and it’s always a good idea to check for items that might belong in your house instead of in Lost and Found. For obvious reasons lunch bags and food containers cannot sit in Lost and Found for long periods of time, so please check regularly for those items.  FOOD CONTAINERS WILL BE THROWN OUT REGULARLY (usually at the end of the day on Fridays).  It doesn’t take long for them to look and smell a bit unpleasant!
**  MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC **
Choirs, classrooms and recorder ensembles and that are preparing selections for the spring concert will be able to find pdfs of the music plus most rehearsal and performance audio tracks on the Huron Music Wiki here:  http://huronmusic.wikispaces.com/
There are links for choirs, concerts, Music Monday on the left-hand menu.
**  A FANTASTIC SKATE NIGHT **
Thanks to all families who were able to join us last Friday for our Annual Skate Night at Varsity Stadium.  It was a wonderful evening of skating and camaraderie among Huron families.  A grand total of $943.72 was raised and this money will now go to support Huron’s physical education and athletics programs. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped to coordinate everything and then helped to make the evening run so smoothly.
**  HURON’S MONTHLY EARTH HOUR  **
As we mentioned previously, Huron is going to have our own “Earth Hour” on the last Friday of every month from now until the end of the school year. We’re doing this to continue to focus our attention on environmental issues and the amount of electricity we use on a day-to-day basis, as well it’s another helpful initiative towards our application to be a Platinum level Eco-School. Friday April 25th, from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, will be our next “Earth Hour”.

**  AN UPDATE FROM OUR TERRY FOX WALK  **

We just wanted to update you on Huron Street school’s donation to the Terry Fox Foundation.  There continue to be donations made to the Foundation in the name of our school, and so we have just received a new total donation amount. We have raised a total of $8275.47 on our 2013/2014 Terry Fox walk.  That is absolutely amazing – well done everyone!

**  DANCE-A-THON UPDATE  **

Thank you to all parents who volunteered to help out at our Dance-A-Thon which was held in late February, and we are pleased to report that through the generosity of the Huron community $6732.00 was raised that day.  Some of that money will now be spent on a new SmartBoard for the Library which will go together with the data projector and lap-top computer already purchased, and the balance of the money raised will go towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) resources for all grade levels, Kindergarten to Grade 6.

**  DRAWING and SKETCHING CLUB  **
For PRIMARY STUDENTS

Interested students have already returned their “registration” forms and today (April 11th) they received notification of acceptance to the club.

Students involved will eat their lunch in the gym (or Superfriends) as usual and two of the grade 4 students leading the club will be waiting in the gym with a sign, to take them to the scheduled location at 12:00pm.  Students in Superfriends should go to the scheduled location at 12:00pm.  The club will then run from 12:00 – 12:30pm.

Students are required to bring their own sketching materials, like pencil and erasers however paper will be provided. These things should be brought down to lunch with them as they will not be able to go to their own classroom at lunch to get their materials.

Tuesday, April 15th – 12:00pm – 12:30pm – Mr. Puentes, Room 18
Tuesday, April 22nd – 12:00pm – 12:30pm – Ms. Steel, Room 13
Tuesday, April 29th – 12:00pm – 12:30pm – Ms. Anderson, Room 17
Tuesday, May 6th – 12:00pm – 12:30pm – Ms. Weir, Room 23
Tuesday, May 13th – 12:00pm – 12:30pm – Ms. Way, Room 9

*Due to the large number of participants, and the instructional nature of this student-led Club, unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated. If students are unable to meet the behaviour expectations, they will be expected to leave the club.

All of this information will also be on the handout the students receive today, informing them that they have been accepted into the Club.
**  MUSIC MONDAY – MAY 5th @ 1:00pm  **
Music Monday is Monday May 5 and here at Huron we are hoping to mark the occasion at 1:00pm that day – in the big field (weather permitting).
To find out about this  national event, go to :http://www.musicmonday.ca/

Parents/caregivers and friends of the Huron community are welcome to come and listen as Huron raises voices, and instruments, in song. In the event of rain, it will take place in the gym.

The song mp3 and lyrics can be found here on the Music Room wiki: http://huronmusic.wikispaces.com/Music+Monday

**  NO SCHOOL on FRIDAY APRIL 18th and MONDAY APRIL 21st  **

We would like to wish all Huron friends and families that are celebrating Passover and/or Easter a very Happy Holiday!

Track and Field; Dental Screening; Lost and Found…

**  TRACK AND FIELD  **

Our 5th Annual Track and Field Day is coming up on Thursday April 10th and we are looking for Parent Volunteers to help that day. If you are able to help for the whole day or a half day, we would greatly appreciate your help to make this day a success! Volunteers are needed from 9:00 am – 11:30 am and from 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm. Dress appropriately for the weather! If you are available to help next Thursday please contact the school (416-393-1570) or Mr. Cameron (our Track and Field Coordinator) and let him know.

** DENTAL SCREENING **

Toronto Public Health provides dental screening programs for all students through the schools. The dental screening dates for Huron are April 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2014. A letter from Toronto Public Health with more information was emailed to all families earlier this week.  Please make sure you read this letter so you are familiar with the program as well as the procedures you need to follow if you do not want your child(ren) to participate.
** LOST AND FOUND **
Please remember to check Lost and Found frequently.  Items are starting to build up again since March Break and it’s always a good idea to check for items that might belong in your house instead of in Lost and Found.
A special notice about lunch bags and food containers
For obvious reasons lunch bags and food containers cannot sit in Lost and Found for long periods of time, so especially for these items do check regularly.  FOOD CONTAINERS WILL BE THROWN OUT REGULARLY (usually at the end of the day on Fridays).  It doesn’t take long for them to look and smell a bit unpleasant!
