Huron Happenings – March 6, 2017

AFRICAN HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY

We will be having our African Heritage Month Celebration Assembly on Wednesday March 8th, and we hope to get things started at about 10:45am. Various classes and performing groups have been working hard to prepare these past few weeks and are very eager to perform. If your schedule permits, please come and join us.

DANCE-A-THON

Huron’s annual, fundraiser, DANCE-A-THON will be happening on Thursday March 9th. All classes, Kindergarten to Grade 6, will be involved and parents/caregivers are very welcome to come and spend some time dancing as well. Please check with your child’s teacher about when their class is scheduled to be in the gym.

Today all students received a “Pledge-A-Lope” for their pledges and donations to our DANCE-A-THON. Please note that donations of $25.00 or more, in cheque form only, are eligible for a tax receipt with a complete address provided.

THE GREAT BIG CRUNCH

March 9th, 2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Great Big Crunch. We hope you’ll crunch with us at 2:30pm. Since 2008, over 900,000 people have joined us for the Great Big Crunch, an annual moment where everyone gets together and bites into crunchy fresh local produce in unison. The symphony is loud, whether you munch on apples or carrots. From coast to coast to coast, celebrate and enjoy healthy snacking with your class, colleagues or friends. Using vegetables and fruits as stars in recipes and fun activities will make you cherish the local bounty around us all. Huron will be receiving fresh apples for all classes participating and an announcement will signal our Great Big Crunch at 2:30pm. DONATIONS FOR THE HOMELESS

Thank you to everyone who has already donated new or gently used hats, scarves and mittens/gloves for our local homeless individuals. Some of the donations have already been distributed and been very gratefully received – especially with the rainy and cold temperatures we’ve had lately. There is a bin in the front foyer of the school if anyone else would like to donate – and we will continue to accept donations until Friday March 10th.

LOST AND FOUND

Again our Lost and Found structure in the front foyer is full and overflowing – you can find just about every imaginable item of clothing as well as water bottles, lunch bags, and umbrellas. All items in Lost and Found will be donated to charity during March Break, and our Lost and Found will be empty when we return! Please make sure you check Lost and Found regularly this week and take home all items that belong to you.

MARCH BREAK HOLIDAY

We would like to wish everyone in our Huron Community a happy, healthy, and relaxing March Break. A reminder that the school will be closed from March 13th – March 17th, 2017 inclusive. We’ll see everyone back at school again on Monday March 20th, 2017.

HURON FAMILY SKATE NIGHT

Mark your calendars – we are planning to have our annual Huron Family Skate Night on Friday March 31st, 2017 at Varsity Stadium. More information will be coming soon with specific information – and timing will likely be 5:00-7:00pm.
